ShockSuit
SportCase Review
|
I currently have a graphite-colored Handspring Visor Deluxe. It
came with 8-Mb ram. I purchased the 8-Mb ram module along with a
backup module. I primarily use my Visor as a personal organizer
and reference tool, but have also used it as a data collection device.
I synch with both work and home computers.
Reviewed Case
Rhinoskin
manufactured the case I tested, called the ShockSuit SportCase.
It is designed to house PalmPilots/Palm III/IIIx, the Handspring
Visor and Visor Deluxe and comes in two colors, black or blue.
Rhinoskin's product description is as follows: This ultra-light,
form-fitting case is constructed from polyethylene foam, which
gives the case its shock absorbent qualities. The plastic
frame provides rigidity and contributes to the case's overall
superior protection. A nylon layer covers the inner material
and provides weather resistance. A flip-up cover offers screen
protection and convenient screen access, and the case has
a two-piece detachable clip on the backside. A hot-sync cable
port is on the bottom of the case for convenient connectivity.
Size: (5" x 3.5" x 1"). Weight: approx. 2 oz.

Evaluation
The case is well built, sturdy, yet light. In addition, it is well
padded. I can attest to this because I accidentally dropped my Visor
at home. Granted, the floor is carpeted. However, I did drop it
from about 2 feet with no ill effects. In another instance, I tossed
my briefcase, which contained my Visor in the Rhino case, into my
car without any damage.
On the down side, the case does not have an IR port for Visors.
And, while there is a cut-away in the base of the case for synching,
I still had difficulty synching my Visor. I had to remove my Visor
from the case to synch. Lastly, the case does not have the capability
to carry items like business cards, paper money, or credit cards.
The case is bulky and noticeable. However, I would imagine that,
over time, one would eventually not notice it.
Summation
Overall, the case does perform as advertised. It is a protective
device and functions well in that capacity. This is especially useful
for healthcare providers in clinical environments like an operating
room, critical care unit, or the home care where jostling and the
threat of 'collision' is always there. However, if you are looking
for something a little more chic with a bit more functionality,
then this may not be the case for you.
Priced at $34.95 you can buy it direct from Rhinoskin
