28 February 2003 According to AvantGo, the mobile device user
is generally male, between the ages of 35 and 50. The study determined
that 23% of these users work in the tech industry, 43% use both
a laptop and a PC and 48% use their mobile device most often in
the office.
AvantGo surveyed 1,450 mobile device users in the
US this month and determined that 84% are male and 40% are between
the ages of 35 and 50. Another 40% are between the ages of 18
and 34.
AvantGo surveyed users of its "My AvantGo" service
by delivering questionnaires via respondents' mobile devices.
It reports that 23% of mobile device users work in the technology
field, while 11% are in the healthcare industry. Only 4% are in
the entertainment business.

A vast majority (65%) of respondents say that they purchased
their mobile device themselves, whereas just 11% say it was provided
to them by their employer.

Other interesting points from the AvantGo survey include the
findings that 43% of respondents say they use both a laptop and
a personal computer (PC) and that 48% use their mobile device
most in the office. As for their online shopping habits, AvantGo
found that 60% of respondents buy books online, 56% buy PC software
online and 49% buy CDs and/or music online.
